Suspect charged in convenience store break-ins

Rocky Mount police arrested a suspect in connection with a pair of recent commercial break-ins.
Police arrested Antoine Bernard Billups, 30, on Saturday on the 300 block of McDonald Street in connection to a break-in at 4:57 a.m. the same day at the Kangaroo Express on the 900 block of West Raleigh Boulevard and to a break-in of the same store at 4:36 a.m. Friday.
Police said cigarettes estimated to be worth $246 were taken in Saturday’s break-in. Nothing was reported to have been stolen in Friday’s break-in.
According to court records, Billups made his first court appearance in connection to the break-ins Tuesday in N.C. District Court in Nashville.
According to N.C. Department of Public Safety records, Billups was convicted of breaking and entering in 2005 in Edgecombe County in connection to an incident that happened March 16, 2004. The records also state he was convicted of breaking and entering in 2014 in Johnston County for an incident that happened on Aug. 9, 2014.
He also has a conviction for assault on a female in 2014 in Johnston County.
