Letter to the Editor: Biggest threat to freedom comes from Democrats
Wednesday, September 6, 2017
I take umbrage to the remarks made recently by Ms. Koo on Aug. 30. She not only denigrated the entire white race, but also labeled their black friends as “token blacks.” So a leftist has self-appointed herself as a spokeswoman for the struggles of the entire race of black people, and condemns the entire race of white people with the leftist mantra of “white privilege.”
A person’s race is not the most important factor about any person. By attacking and labeling an entire race with “white privilege” or “white supremacy” simply based on the color of a person’s skin is, in fact, racist in and of itself. She insinuates that only white people can be racist. While white racists exist, the reality is that people of all colors, creeds, and ethnicity are not devoid of racism.
As a person of Asian descent, your claim of “ white privilege” should have deterred you from achieving your lot in life. As a self-avowed Socialist, you seem to have done pretty good in that evil of all evils capitalist America. Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic model on Earth. If your belief system feeds into the narrative that the U.S. oppresses the masses and only enriches the few, your words, perhaps you should pack up and take your talents to one of those Socialist countries you admire so much, where misery truly abounds for the masses and only a few at the top share the wealth.
On the subject of Confederate statues, as a leftist you have done what leftists do best. Everybody and everything is seen through the prism of race. Truth be known, six weeks or six months or six years ago, Andre Knight didn’t give a second thought about the current statue in Rocky Mount. This all revolves around power. Racism is their “power tool” of choice in their toolbox. And if we want to be fair about the whole issue, it was the Jim Crow, KKK, and segregationist Democratic party responsible for all these statues.
Remove the honor of anything named after U.S. Sen. Al Gore Sr., a Democratic segregationist. Take the name off the 57 bridges, roads and buildings named after Democratic U.S. Sen. Robert “KKK” Byrd in West Virginia, the Grand Kleagle and Exalted Cyclops of the KKK well into his Senate career. Rename the oldest United States Senate office building, the Russell Senate building, named after Richard Russell Jr., a former strict segregationist Senator from the state of Georgia.
Slavery is despicable. The slave trade that brought slaves from Africa to the U.S. were sold by black slave owners. Slavery has existed in Africa for many centuries, and still continues in the current day in some countries. The U.S. was the first nation on Earth to put an end to slavery. Imagine the irony if the Andre Knights in the U.S. found out their ancestors were the very ones profiting from the slave trade in Africa.
Stating these statues represent a threat to freedom reveals Ms. Koo’s ideological naivete. These statues had no say in the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The overwhelming majority of vociferous voices opposing civil rights for black Americans came from Democrats and the Democratic Party. As an unapologetic white Christian and constitutional conservative, the biggest threat to my freedoms comes from the morally bankrupt secular progressives within the Democratic Party and the legions of anarchists they have co-opted spreading their message of hate, intimidation and bodily harm.
